Bad omen for Kansas vs. UCLA?

What happens when the nation's No. 1 team faces a winless SWAC team, and perhaps the worst team in the country? Here's a hint: It ain't pretty.

About the only thing that went right for Alcorn State (0-10) Wednesday night against the Jayhawks (6-0) was during the first couple minutes. Kansas missed its first four shots and trailed 4-0.

Then KU ripped off 36 consecutive points, one shy of the NCAA record before going on to win, 98-31.

(whistles)

You read that correctly. 36 straight points. From the AP game story:

Taking advantage of turnovers and Alcorn State's inability to get back on defense, Kansas dished and dunked its way to an almost unthinkable 36-0 run. Shaunvanta Ingram finally ended Alcorn State's futility at 12 minutes with a short jumper, leaving Kansas one point short of the NCAA record for consecutive points, set by Utah State against Idaho in 2006.

On a night when UCLA loses another player (freshman Reeves Nelson) to an injury, less than 24 hours after Drew Gordon decides to leave the team, I wonder if we'll see more of this on Sunday.

"We need to go play," Kansas coach Bill Self said. "Our guys, hopefully, will not buy into these last few games us scoring a lot of points. Our season is beginning Sunday (at UCLA) as far as the competitive aspect of it."

If Ben Howland's smart, he'll bring out that new zone early and often.

Yes, Mike Miller went to Kansas, but it doesn't mean he can't do a post or tweet (@BeyndArcMMiller) about the Jayhawks.
